What is dark sky tourism?

The splendour of the stars, moon, and Milky Way can be enhanced by a really black sky. However, you must leave cities to discover black sky for beautiful stargazing.

Travellers may combine visiting new places with spending time under the stars, whether on a stargazing tour or at a star party. Many of the world’s largest observatories are available to the public, and some even provide brief astronomy courses and stargazing nights.

Observatories, which are frequently positioned in dark, clear-sky locations atop peaks and volcanoes, provide a dual opportunity for understanding the science of contemporary astronomy as well as naked-eye stargazing.

  • Any open area away from city lights and large structures will give you a magnificent view of the skies.
  • The ideal area to get away from light pollution is Scotland. Galloway Forest Park was designated the UK’s first Dark Sky Park.
  • The National Parks of the Brecon Beacons, Pembrokeshire Coast, and Snowdonia are excellent dark sky places for night-time adventures and stargazing.
  • You can get a star chart, check for projected aurora sightings, or download a stargazing calendar.

There are a variety of stargazing experiences available, whether you want to visit a remote part of the planet, see a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence, or stargaze from a luxurious hotel.
