What is film tourism?

A site that becomes popular with visitors as a result of its appearance in a film or television series is referred to as film tourism.

Film tourism has a beneficial influence on a place, and with the use of current technology, it offers new experiences for travellers while encouraging local tourism, rejuvenating destinations in risk of depopulation, and enhancing a country’s economy. Film and tourism are two of the most well-known and rapidly increasing global sectors that may satisfy this desire in nearly identical ways but via distinct approaches.

Both cinema and tourism are essentially sectors that provide opportunities to revisit or experience, see and learn novelties via entertainment and pleasure.

Because these locations are genuine, viewers don’t have to fantasise about being in the movies when they can really visit them:

  • Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Petra, Jordan – after appearing in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989, the ancient city of Petra, notable for its carved rose-red sandstone facade, tombs, and temple, became a world-renowned tourist destination.
  • Harry Potter, Christ Church College, Oxford – Oxford has appeared in numerous films, but it is Christ Church College that is most identifiable in the Harry Potter movie.
  • Notting Hill, London – the film takes place in the urbanised and pretty London neighbourhood of Notting Hill, highlighting Portobello Road market and the blue door on Westbourne Park Road.
  • Amelie, Paris – visitors come from all over the world to see the famous café where Amelie works in the legendary French film.
  • Pretty Woman, Beverly Wilshire Hotel, LA – every year, hundreds of Pretty Woman admirers visit the opulent Beverly Hills hotel to take photographs or to stay in for the entire experience.

If you want more I suggest Lord of the Rings in New Zealand, City Slickers in Colorado – loads more to choose from and the above ones you’ve put in are great!
