Europe’s most spooky sites

There are many spooky sites to visit across the world, especially those with a dark and terrible history. With centuries of stormy history, one continent appears to have more threatening spots than any other. Indeed, the creepiest sites in Europe are among the scariest around the world!

  • Catacombs of Paris – are among the biggest in Europe, consisting of a tangled system of underground passageways filled with the bones of around six million bodies. According to folklore, if you enter the Paris Catacombs after midnight, the walls start speaking. Disembodied voices will try to entice you to explore the catacombs further and deeper eventually you can’t locate your way out.
  • Poveglia Island, Venice – is splattered with blood from hundreds of years of terrible death. This was where plague victims were confined, and diseased remains were disposed of. In the early 1900s, this ghostly island held a mental institute. Poveglia is one of Europe’s, if not the world’s, most haunted islands.
  • Kilkenny, Ireland – This mediaeval city had Ireland’s first witchcraft trial. Locals say they see spooky, hazy forms emerging from the river in the mornings. Spooky ghosts may be felt throughout the city, and there are various ghost tours that take you to the most haunted locations.
  • Bran Castle, Transylvania – is said to be one of the most haunted castles in the world, and ghost-hunters from around the world go to the Medieval stone fortification annually to try their luck at detecting the paranormal.
