• What is a trullo?

Trulli (plural of trullo) are the historic homes of Alberobello, a trullo is a traditional Puglian cottage constructed of limestone, which is located in the Italian province of Puglia. They feature a characteristic cone-shaped roof that is frequently covered with white inscriptions.

The little white houses are scattered throughout the mountainside, their conical stone roofs soaring above them. They appear to be a mountain range seen from the air.

• Trulli were built for rural areas. They were built as single structures or in groupings of up to a dozen buildings, but solely for the use of one family.
• This is hardly a historic site, rather it is a stroll through the ruins of a long-gone era. This is still an important component of the local culture. This native culture, however, is now mostly sustained by tourists.
• There is no better way to view Alberobello than to take a stroll around Rione Monti.
• Alberobello is one of 53 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Italy owing to its profusion of mediaeval trulli.
