Incredible Ancient Worlds

Thousands of people each year seek to unravel the mysteries of ancient civilisations at the world’s historic sites. These architectural wonders of the ancient world are nothing short of stunning and should be on your must-see travel list. They were built without the equipment and contemporary technology we have come to rely on today.

When we think of the Old World, we are drawn to the huge ancient cities that were at the centre of vast empires and cosmopolitan civilizations. Even if you’ve never seen these well-known ancient ruins, you’ve probably heard of them:

  • Machu Picchu – one of the most well-known ancient Incan settlements. This medieval  stronghold is nestled in the Peruvian mountains.  One of the best preserved archaeological sites of the time.
  • Petra – The Rose City of Petra is an ancient desert settlement constructed thousands of years ago by nomads out of pink sandstone cliffs. It’s difficult to imagine this Jordanian city, hidden between the Red Sea and the Dead Sea, was once filled with lush gardens, opulent buildings, and lively marketplaces.
  • Great Wall of China – The world’s longest man-made building. It is made up of a number of distinct portions of walls and moats that were erected as a defence against invaders during the duration of six Chinese dynasties.
  • City of Caral-Supe, Peru – one such location is the ancient ruins of Caral-Supe, the Americas’ earliest civilisation hub. It is located in a desert near the Supe River, north of Lima, and dates back more than 5,000 years.
