ITT Future You Interview with student ambassador Adela Rokytova

  • Can you tell me a bit about yourself?

”Firstly, Hello to everyone who reads this! And thank you, Diana, for interviewing with me it is exciting! So, to start, my name is Adela, and I am from the Czech Republic- one of the most beautiful countries to me! I study Business with Tourism Management at Northumbria University, and after the holidays, I will start my final year, which is crazy; I feel like I have just started. While doing this interview, I am in Canada, where I was chosen to participate in an exchange programme at Trent University, and I can say it has been one of the best experiences in my life so far! Except for travelling, I love spending time with my amazing boyfriend, family, and friends but also on my own. Furthermore, I used to dance for 12 years, so dance classes are the right choice when I need to boost my energy (or shopping, hehe). In recent years, my entire energy was mostly put into studying as I was not confident about my language skills; however, Canada has changed my mindset so much, and I managed to balance university’s responsibilities and so-called “me-time”, while still getting an excellent grades. I also have a part-time job at Hilton, mainly during large events, and I love it!”

  • Tell me about your travel experiences.

”As I Have previously mentioned, I used to dance; therefore, my passion for travelling started when I had an opportunity to travel thanks to world competitions and at my secondary school for the good academic results. When I was 16, I travelled with my friend to the UK for two weeks from my first part-time job salary (yes, my parents were not happy about it). I love travelling low cost and exploring the country when I am here. I have visited many European countries, and my favourite ones were Greece, Croatia, Austria, Italy, Northern Ireland and Ireland itself or Canarian Islands and the UK for sure!. In Canada, I have also travelled a lot- Trent is located in Ontario; therefore, I have visited Toronto many times; during the reading week, we travelled to Alberta, which was one of the places on my bucket list, and it was amazing even in winter- at least I have reason to go back in summer! After travelling to British Columbia and Quebec, I was astounded by Montreal, which reminded me of European cities. I have to say that Montreal is one of the most beautiful cities in Canada to me. My Canadian adventure will end in New York City with my boyfriend for ten days. But even for summer, I have already so many travel plans, I honestly cannot imagine my life without travelling, and I am grateful I can do so- hard work pays off!”

  • Why you want to be ITT Future You Student Ambassador?

”After attending the FUTURE YOU event in my first year of university, I started considering I could apply in my second year. As I have already said, I was not confident and tended to underestimate myself; therefore, I have seen this opportunity as something through which I can challenge myself while doing something I love-travelling. I am fresher in the ITT community, but I believe that sooner or later, I will prove to be a valuable part of the team and that we will have so much fun!”

  • Where do you see yourself in five years?

”In 5 years? This is a bit tricky, but my following plans are to do a remote internship while finishing my final year of university and getting a first-class honour degree. After that, apply for a Master’s degree in Marketing-for now, I am still not entirely sure where, but my heart votes for London. After finishing my master’s degree with a  first-class grade, I will take a gap year and travel with my boyfriend to Australia, which I wanted to do before university, but I could not due to the last chance of pre-Brexit conditions for European students. After this year, I would have two options: either start my own business or work for a marketing company- I am keeping my doors open as every day brings new opportunities. Most importantly, I will be healthy and even more happy than now with my boyfriend and the people around me.”
