Germany is a country of opposites, with ancient traditions and forward-thinking aspirations. It’s also a land endowed with acres of unbelievably lovely scenery studded with dense dark forests, enormous stretches of vineyards, brilliantly preserved half-timbered towns, and, of course, the Alps. 

Here are some of Germany’s most stunning sights, from the mountains to the city and everything in between: 

• Lake Königssee – one of Germany’s most beautiful lakes and one of the nicest spots in the country to explore. Germany’s deepest and cleanest lake, located in the south-eastern part of the country and near the Austrian border. 
• Sanssouci Castle – this beautiful summer mansion is on a big hill near Potsdam in East Germany. There are hidden temples and gazebos inside the gardens, while the palace itself is adorned with gold Rococo ornamentation and historical 18th-century furnishings. 
• Bremen – a lovely city famed for its impressive Hanseatic architecture. It’s famed for inspiring the Grimm’s folklore narrative of the Musicians of Bremen, in addition to its gorgeous mediaeval architecture. 
• Lichtenstein Castle – fairy tales may be a dream but visiting Lichtenstein Castle in southern Germany will make you feel you’re in one. This castle is available to the public; however, it is privately owned.
