Myths about Australia
Most of these crazy Australia myths are probably familiar to you. We’re sure some of these myths are preventing you from visiting the nation.
However, you’ll quickly discover that these stereotypes about Australia are far from true:
- Every Australian is a blonde, blue-eyed surfer – cities in Australia are exceptionally varied and cosmopolitan, with residents from a wide range of nations and cultural backgrounds.
- Australians ride kangaroos – this is a misconception that Australians are sick of hearing. Contrary to popular perception, Australians do not ride kangaroos to work or school.
- Australia is always hot, sunny, and tropical – Australia is a large nation with a wide range of climates. Winters in these areas may be startlingly chilly, while summers can be hot, dry, and wet all in the same day.
- All of them are surfers – not everyone can surf, and the majority have never tried. Having said that, around 10% of the population surfs.
- You are going to be killed by some sort of dangerous creature – whilst Australia is home to a large number of deadly and poisonous animals, the likelihood of running into them is day-to-day life is low.
- Australia is a small country – despite being an island nation it is the sixth largest nation on earth
