Urban tourism trends
Tourism is a vast, diverse, and strategically vital business that plays a significant role in national economic and social growth. Cities have emerged as critical nodes in the growth of global tourism.
Urban tourism, also known as City tourism, is a type of tourism that takes place in major population megacities, often in each country’s principal cities or urban regions.
Urban tourism activities include the following:
- Sightseeing and attractions, include visits to museums, historical sites, religious sites, art galleries skyscrapers and buildings with historical significance, monuments and memorials and other tourist destinations.
- Another type of city tourism is related with attendance at large events such as festivals, concerts, parades, conferences, or business travel activities.
- Restaurants, nightclubs, theatres, athletic events, and shopping are examples of recreational and leisure tourist activities.
With cities housing more than half of the world’s population, it’s no wonder that megacities are becoming attractive tourist destinations. These cities have an incredible variety of attractions, companies, and recreational opportunities all in one location.
When travelling, people are increasingly searching for one-of-a-kind experiences. They want to connect with the local culture and feel as though they are a part of the place they are visiting. This has resulted in an increase in experiential tourism, which includes activities such as culinary excursions, wine tastings, and cultural events.
