Some of the most haunted destinations are nevertheless worth seeing, whether for their stunning architecture, breath-taking landscapes, or intriguing history.
These haunting locations are enough to frighten even the most sceptic travellers:
- Casa Loma, Canada – this Gothic Revival-style home has several corridors and secret tunnels. For years, ghost stories have circulated about the house, and visitors can still take a tour of it today. Staff and visitors to the mediaeval castle have told enough tales of seeing a strange lady clad in white, hearing the mumbles and sighs of a crotchety man near the barns, and experiencing other ghostly encounters that it has earned a name as a paranormal hotspot.
- Island of the dolls, Mexico – the place is well-known for the hundreds of dolls (and doll parts) that hang from trees and are dispersed over the grass. It was the home of a now-deceased man called Julian Santa Barrera. Barrera acquired and exhibited the toys after discovering a deceased girl’s body in a nearby canal in the hopes of warding off evil spirits. Visitors to the island frequently report seeing the doll’s eyes tracking them. Others have stated that the maimed dolls speak to them, particularly at night.
- The Forbidden City, China – China’s old imperial residence that is now a museum. However, you may be surprised to know that the renowned tourist spot has a strong following among paranormal aficionados. Undoubtedly, there have been numerous stories of weird occurrences since the palace’s public opening in the 1940s. The most common narrative involves a woman dressed in white walking around the grounds sobbing, while another has flute music being heard late at night from a deserted city.
